Great News for the WordPress Users!

Now WordPress supports Google’s Accelerated Mobile Pages(AMP) to load the mobile pages faster.

First of all, What is AMP?

It’s Google’s effort to make mobile web faster. It is the initiative with the vision that publishers can create mobile optimized content once and have it load instantly everywhere.

You can read detailed information about it on AMPProjects. The thorough tutorials are provided to learn how to create it.

As Google introduced AMP on October 2015, the WordPress team had been started working on it and the AMP Plugin is the result.

Just install it and your WordPress site will support Accelerated Mobile Pages.

Keep following points in mind if you are going to use this plugin:

  • It’s only for posts. Currently, it does not support pages and archives.
  • With the AMP plugin active, your site dynamically generates AMP compatible pages which you can access by appending /amp/ at the end of URL.Example: If your post URL is http://www.example.com/my-post/ then the URL of AMP version will be http://www.example.com/my-post/amp/

One more note: If you are not using pretty permalink then you can access AMP version by appending ?amp=1

  • The plugin only creates AMP version of content but can’t automatically display it to users when they visit your site from the mobile. That is handling by AMP consumers like Google Search.

The WordPress removes the content from AMP pages which makes web page slow down. It strips out embeds, JavaScripts, Flash and comments are also omitted from AMP pages to make it faster.

It’s a great news for WordPress users that all WordPress sites are now AMP enable. The WordPress Plugins always make it easier to handle the websites.
